Mission #1: Kenner, LA

On Saturday, September 3, Frank Campana and Alan Smith led a team of 13 armed men to New Orleans to carry over 8,000 pounds of water, food, fuel, sanitation supplies, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people stranded by Hurricane Katrina. The neighborhood that became their destination is in Kenner, a suburb on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The supplies were distributed within 2 hours of their arrival in the neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, and the remainder of the afternoon was spent in a reconnaissance effort to determine the true status of the ground situation

We found it to be necessary to avoid the government and Red Cross relief systems. They want to take control of the supplies, and distribute them with their own agenda, which does not include the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and certainly not a message of repentance. Government officials in Kenner tried to take our supplies, and threatened to have us arrested if we distributed food and water in any way other than their distribution point. Frank Campana stood his ground, and said, “Here I am, arrest me; but we are going to give this food and water out in the name of Jesus!” The official stalked over to a police officer, and the men all gathered and prayed. The Lord worked a true miracle; when the official came back, he had completely changed his attitude, he gave us permission to distribute the food in whatever way we wanted, and accepted some of our men to help with their effort. Before the day was out, our men were running the government food line, and openly preaching the gospel to the people in the line!
